With WoodworX, Brian Heywood celebrates the Australian emmigrant music that was imported to the land
Downunda by the folk who ended up on 'The Fatal Shore' - either willingly or otherwise. The
music has passed through the forge of the harsh outback and the urban 'push' to become a strong and
vibrant reflection of life in Aussie - referring to its roots, but standing proudly on its own two feet.
WoodworX originally started as a collaboration between two Australian musicians - Brian Heywood and Toni Wood - both now based in the UK. Toni is no longer gigging but singer Dawn Webb has stepped into the breach to keep the rich vocal harmonies and dymanic lead vocals central to the sound of the band. The band have released one album to date and have played on both sides of the planet in settings as diverse as Galsgow's Celtic Connections, the NAFA convention in Nashville and the Australian National Festival. The album which was recorded in both Australia and the UK has received critical aclaim with comments like "... essential listening, and possibly the best thing you'll hear all year." from FiddleOn Magazine (UK) and "A must for lovers of folk rock." from Musician Magazine (UK). You can book WoodworX either with an acoustic trio with an accordion player or in a larger, a semi-acoustic quartet with a percussionist or a full on 'electric' ensemble for either concert or Bush Dance bookings (or both!). The reviews...- Jill Fisher (FiddleOn Magazine) "... - this is a beautifully produced album. A must for lovers of folk rock." - Musician Magazine (UK) "More sharp, blistering British folk rock from one of the newest masters of the genre..." - Crow and Wolf Music "WoodworX's particular brand of contemporary folk-pop should appeal to a wide cross-section of listeners" - David Kidman (NetRhythms.co.uk) "sexy and unpredictable" - Score! Music Magazine "rocked-up folk with roo bars" - The Rake's Progress |
